DRAINED
Katy

A great city of darkness clouds the horizon

I slip through the allies
avoiding the glances
of shady figures in the gloom.

Haughty eyes follow me from above windows
and hunt as dancers flee.

The park is long past overgrew
and choke my bare feet.

Beggers grab my arms
and scratch my lungs
with their pleas.

Gaudy signs break their voices
with their screams

The heart is stolen by a stranger
and is far gone.

Alone I sit in a doorway
a dead rose under my feet
